Bringing a newborn anywhere can feel like a big undertaking. Even places you want to be can feel overwhelming in those early weeks, when you’re tired, adjusting, and carrying a lot mentally.

That’s why I’ve designed my Charleston newborn sessions to feel calm, predictable, and supportive — from the moment you walk in the door.

If you’re wondering what it’s actually like to bring your baby to the studio, here’s what you can expect.

A quiet, unhurried space

My studio located in Park Circle, is intentionally calm. Soft light. Warm temperature. No rushing from setup to setup.

Newborn sessions move at your baby’s pace. Feeding breaks, diaper changes, and time to settle are all built in. There’s no pressure to keep things moving or to “get it right.” The goal is to create space where everyone can exhale a little.

You don’t need to arrive with a perfectly calm baby — that’s part of the process, not a problem.

A full-service wardrobe for moms

One of the biggest stressors I hear from parents is clothing — especially for moms who are freshly postpartum and still figuring out what feels comfortable in their body. That’s why the studio wardrobe is there for you.

You’re welcome to choose from a curated collection of dresses and pieces that photograph beautifully and feel good to wear. Nothing fussy. Nothing trendy for the sake of it. Just simple, thoughtful options so you don’t have to plan an outfit on top of everything else.

You can also bring your own if you prefer — the wardrobe is there as support, not a requirement.

A playroom for siblings

If you’re bringing older siblings, the studio is set up with them in mind too.

There’s a dedicated playroom where siblings can take breaks, play, and be themselves. This gives parents the chance to focus on the newborn portion of the session without constantly juggling entertainment or energy levels.

We’ll bring siblings in when it makes sense, keep their involvement relaxed, and allow them to step away when they need to. They don’t need to perform — they just need space to be kids.

Guidance without pressure

You don’t need to know what to do with your hands, how to hold your baby, or how the session should unfold.

I’ll guide you gently throughout — offering direction when it’s helpful and stepping back when moments unfold naturally. Nothing is forced, and nothing is overly posed. The experience is designed to feel steady and reassuring, especially for parents who are doing a lot of things for the first time.

A session that supports the season you’re in

Newborn days are tender. You’re learning your baby while also adjusting to a new rhythm of life.

My job is to create an environment that supports that season — one where you feel cared for, not managed, and where the experience feels just as thoughtful as the final images. If you have questions before your session, I’m always happy to walk you through what to expect. You don’t have to figure any of this out on your own.

That’s what the studio is here for.
